A three-sport athlete at Half Moon Bay High, Laura received league and county honors multiple times in tennis, basketball and softball. Terada was the NPL double's runner up in Tennis as a Freshman, and the NPL doubles champion her last two years of high school. On the basketball court, Terada was named MVP of the girl's frosh-soph basketball team two year's in a row, and the team won the NPL in her second year. As a varsity basketball player, she was 1st team, All League and 2nd team, All County as a junior, and 1st team, All County and the NPL League MVP in her senior year. That year, the HMB Girl's basketball team finished the season as NPL champions, and was ranked 6th in the state.
She also played softball three years. In her first year, she part of the NPL champion softball team, a CCS runner up, and was named 1st team, All League and 2nd team, All County. As a sophomore and junior, she was named 1st team, All League, and 1st team, All County for the Girl's softball team. During her sophomore season, the team won the CCS championship, and the following year became the NPL Champions. Terada spent her senior year rehabilitating from a knee injury.
Laura earned a scholarship from UC Berkeley to play softball. While at Cal she competed on a team that was never ranked lower than 8th nationally and started 3 out of 4 years, earning All Pac 10 and All Region honors her junior and senior years.
